I bought this coffeemaker because I was moving into an apartment that required an auto-shutoff feature for all coffeemakers, and this was the best one I found through my extensive research. My previous coffeemaker didn't have the safety features I needed, so I ended up getting this one at a local hardware store. I love it! It makes great coffee! The best coffeemaker I've ever owned! And it does have the safety features I need.
My only issue with it is it's too big! I couldn't find anything smaller than a 12 cup coffeemaker with the automatic shutoff feature. I solve this problem by brewing four to six servings at a time and then keeping what I don't drink in the fridge. When I need the caffine, I'll reheat a cup. I only need to brew coffee every few days that way.
The carafe is really easy to pour from. I saw some reviews saying that the spout dripped; perhaps those people had gotten defective carafes. I've never had any dripping problems with the carafe.
I've never used the programming feature. But if I decide I want coffee every day instead of three to five days a week, I'll probably end up learning how to use that feature. It's good to have it on there.
Overall, a great machine to have.

Yes, as the title to this review says, I just ordered another of the DCM2500B Smart Brew coffee makers for our home. Not that we need two of them, this one is a replacement for the same unit that finally burnt out after 3 years of daily use, sometimes two and three times a day! To be honest, I'm not so sure it burnt out from overuse either. I'm thinking it was an over-voltage power condition we were having since we moved in.

I have monitored the voltage coming into our house and it has varied anywhere between 109 volts on the low end to 133 volts on the high end! (Too high voltage will fry about anything, electronic or not!) On top of that, every time our heat pump or anything with a large motor - yes, even the vacuum cleaner! - the lights would dip. Letters to the utility company only yielded canned responses that "everything is normal and within tolerance." Uh, OK, if you say so! It took another house being built nearby to get a new, larger transformer installed on the pole. Funny that the new transformer is rated at more than double the one that was up there! Hummmmm...

Now, things seem to be pretty stable. No more dips and steady 120 volts. Unfortunately, too late to save our trusty coffee maker! Grrrrrrr... Anyway, I'm sure with the steady power at correct voltage, we will have this new coffee maker last a long, long time. (Although I'm tempted to buy a third and stow it away in case B&D stops making it just because it's so good!)

Regarding this coffee maker, it is STILL the best, low priced, coffee maker I've ever found. And as a matter of fact, it's probably the best coffee maker at any price! It's not flashy. There are no gizmos, sexy clocks, multi-colored blinking lights or bleeping beepers. It simply works and makes a GOOD cup of coffee...every time! Set the auto function and bam, it works. Operator error not withstanding. Doh!

Not only will it make great coffee, simply operating it is a pleasure. The top opens nice and wide so it's easy to fill. The basket is big and aligns right up when you drop it in. But, THE most important thing is, THE POT DOES NOT DRIP!! Read it again! This pot does not drip, dribble, or leak! It's got a pointed spout and as long as you don't pour so fast as to overwhelm the spout, you get a nice cup of coffee with no mess on the counter and no "after burn" as so many pots leak coffee down onto the heater/burner after the pour. This pot will NOT disappoint you.

Stop shopping and buy this one now. White or black. It's the best. Black & Decker, PLEASE don't ever stop making this model!

The touch-pad buttons are intuitive, and the printed directions clear, so there's no excuse for not waking up to the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of java. see so many negative reports. I've had mine for over 4yrs....the only problem I had at the begining was that I removed the water tank to refill it and it leaked after I put it back in-but that was my fault for not pushing it down far enough. After that I don't remove it,I refilled it w/ a pitcher and it's never leaked again. I think this is a design flaw--they should've made it that the tank wasn't removable. I have a friend who loved mine and so got one of her own. Hers died after only a few months-the element wouldn't heat-up. But she loved it so much she bought another one and has had it now for 2 yrs. She's had no problem w/ it and she drinks several cups a day. And she doesn't remove the tank either.
As far as the taste: I use my every day and buy some rather expensive pods but have never experienced any plastic or "off" taste from my machine.
And w/ regards to those who complain that they have a difficult time closing it. I don't understand that. It's easy, hold the top down and pull the leaver towards you...I can do it w/ one hand.
For those who are interested in buying one you need to remember that these like all machines are mass-produced and there's bound to be some coming off the factory line that are not right-bad element,tubing not secure,bad seal,etc. If you do get one..DO NOT REMOVE THE TANK. Fill it and run it through several times w/ out any pods to rinse it out.
I will tell you that if mine died today I'd be right here on Amazon ordering another one, I wouldn't think twice about it...I guess it's one of those things: You really love or you really hate it.

This is an awesome little coffee maker in a tiny package.
I've had a large Gevalia coffee maker as well as a Senseo single serve coffee pod maker, and while this brewer doesn't quite match up to the Senseo, it definitely does a good job and makes a good hot cup of coffee.
I don't know why it got such low reviews, perhaps people wanted more for the money they paid, but in all honesty, it is an amazing little bargain of a coffee pot for the money. (Though I must admit I got it for about at Target.)
I love that I can program it and have my coffee ready for me in the morning as well as know that if I forget to turn it off in the morning, it has the auto-off safety feature.
It makes just the right amount of coffee (I use paper 16 oz Insulair cups with coffee lids) so I can have a cup in the morning and I can top off right before I leave the house. The coffee is piping hot, and I have to wait a while to let it cool before I take my first sip. The heating base keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature between cups. (Not sure why others said the temp was too low?) On the weekends it's great for splitting the coffee between two for breakfast. :) Unless you use aLOT of milk, it should be hot enough; I suppose if you want to go Latte, you might be better off putting some milk in the carafe before brewing so the base can help get it heated up.?
I also use this machine to heat up my water when I want to make a cup of tea (or cup of noodles, etc.). I've also brewed tea with the bags in the carafe, but haven't yet tried to brew straight leaves, which may be nice. I use paper filters as this one didn't come with a permanent filter, and I've actually found that it's much more convenient to use paper since I just have to toss it in the trash and don't have to worry about cleaning the permanent filter.
This machine is lightweight (which I like), but it doesn't feel cheap. The carafe is lightweight when empty, but sturdy. I've been using mine about twice a day for the past six months and the handle is still very sturdy (I think the guy who had the handle fall off just got a bad one.) The base does slide a bit when you try to push the buttons, but all you have to do is push down on the top of the machine while you're setting it; not sure why others complained about that so much? If you really want it to stay in place, you could try using one of those non-skid rubber mats underneath?
I'm giving this 4 stars only because it doesn't match up to the Senseo (which costs ) since that machine uses turbulence to create a nice frothy-fresh cup each time, then again the single serve pods are a lot more expensive and it has a weird round base design which takes up more counter space...so I'd probably give that one 4.5 stars. The Black & Decker is about on par with the standard Gevalia I used, since that one was a basic brewer, but the larger insulated carafe was harder to clean and was also a lot more capacity than I needed.
When I was looking for a new coffee maker, my requirements were that it have a timer, be a 4-5 cup machine, and be a good price (-). I compared it to the Mr. Coffee 4-cup glass carafe coffee maker. This one won because it was a lil larger, the carafe looked sturdier, and I liked the lid and closed design of the carafe as compared to the cheaper, more open glass carafe on the Mr. Coffee which might also crack/break.

I thought of Black & Decker as more of a power tool company, and thought this machine would be sturdy and reliable. So far, it has totally reached my expectations and I will definitely buy more home appliances from them in the future.

I came online to verify the carafe was stainless steel and not seeping into my coffee/water and I wound up writing a long defense of my lil coffeemaker. Obviously I love it...!

ALL IN ALL, A GREAT BARGAIN COFFEE MAKER WITH GREAT FEATURES FOR THE PRICE. Just realize you're getting a good standard coffee maker and not one of the - machines that are bigger and heavier.

As an ex-Seattle-ite of 12 years, I am pretty persnickity about my espresso. I found this microwave espresso maker at an upscale retail outlet for discontinued merchandise, in my new home city, and thought, what the heck, it is only , what do I have to lose? For ten bucks I got the microwave espresso maker and a frother, basically a beaker with plunger/beater for making steamed milk froth you see on a cappucinno.

After a few attempts, I found the proper setting on my microwave, to make excellent shots of espresso. I did have a couple of messes to clean up before I figured it out. I have a smallish GE microwave purchased in 1997, and don't remember the wattage, but running the microwave for 1 minute and 45 seconds yields almost a full shot of espresso. I empty the result into a cup and put the espresso maker back in the microwave for an additional 10 or 15 seconds which makes enough more to make a good sized shot when added to the first batch. I do this because one newspaper reviewer, who I will talk about later, mentioned that his espresso had a burned taste from leaving it in too long. I have not experienced this, but do this anyway as a precaution. The result is an acceptable dose of espresso for use in making a latte, etc., every time. I do sometimes just add a bit of sugar and take it straight, as well.

Now for the frother. This little guy is amazing and worth the cost, even if you don't use the espresso maker. I am able to make a decent froth in a few seconds using non-fat milk. Whoa. With whole milk you can make something approaching whipped cream in a 15-30 seconds.

Now for the reviewer I mentioned earlier. This fellow published his very negative review in the Seattle Times and, I think, contributed to the apparently horrible reputation that perhaps caused B&D to discontinue this little gem. He obviously did not tinker enough to figure out the settings that would work for his microwave, etc,, and made a couple of messes and gave up, and then proceeded to blast this espresso maker.

I wondered if I was the only person who liked this little guy, so I called a good friend of mine who is a consultant and travels all over the country to see if he wanted one of these. He was way ahead of me and had already been using one for some time. He loves it and it goes everywhere with him. BTW, he is twice the coffee snob that I am. He told me that when he is home he still uses his little B&D instead of the fancy countertop unit he has in his kitchen, if he wants to make a single shot of espresso.

This is like the Holy Grail of microwave espresso makers, though, to my knowledge, it is the only one of its kind. OK, maybe I am being too enthusiastic, but, hey, I love my coffee. It is handy enough toss in the suitcase and take with you for making espresso in your hotel room, if you are a traveler, or just don't want to spend a few hundred dollars for a gadgety space hogging countertop appliance. I actually went back to the store where I bought this and bought two more, in case something happens to my first one, so I will never be without one.

OK, now for the negatives, and there are some. This guy only makes one shot at a time, and then you have to empty the grounds and start over. If I want to share an espresso with my honey, then she had better be patient, because the first shot is for me. The coffee goes in a little aluminum cup that is covered by a screen, and this little cup gets HOT. If you want to make a second shot you have to take the maker apart, empty the grounds, refill it and start over. I do it, sometimes, and it is not impossible, but I do alot of cursing when I do. Of course you can set it aside to cool off first, but that's no fun.

Bottom line, this is a great little espresso maker if you don't mind making one shot at a time, don't mind experimenting a bit, are a traveler, don't want to spend money or space on a large espresso maker, etc. I heartily recommend this microwave espresso maker and wish you luck in finding one (my spares are not for sale!). They are still out there, and I did also see them at Walgreens, at one time.

Reliable brewer makes good coffee, dependably. An auto-off feature would have been nice. Very easy to pour...no sloshes. The sneak-a-cup feature is OK if you don't mind very strong coffee. This is a bare-bones model with minimal features, but I would buy it again.

I love this coffee pot---it is clean looking and finally the pot pours without dripping all over. (I have buying this coffee maker for years and some of the pots would drip.) The timer is convenient and the handle has been improved so water doesn't accumulate there from in the dishwasher. I know from experience that this appliance will only last about 2 years. I wish it would be longer. One drawback---it is supported by 2 feet in front and one at center back-which makes it feel unstable. It would be better if it had 4 feet.

I'm a relative newbie to the art of coffee drinking but I like to think I've done my research. I bought this maker mainly because the experts state repeatedly that a thermal carafe is really the only way to keep coffee warm & that a hot plate only "cooks" the coffee over time causing unwanted bitterness.

I bought this maker not long ago from Target, they had it on sale for .99 which was a total bargain.

I have read the other reviews stating difficulties with the carafe top & I can only assume they didn't take five minutes to read the six pages on the use & maintenance of this machine. It's a quick and easily understandable read I thought. There are two alignment arrows, one when you turn the lid clockwise to put it on and another arrow in which you turn the lid counterclockwise to pour the coffee. I like this feature as you are able to pour a cup without the carafe losing its heat.

I got a little scientific with this maker and whipped out my non-contact thermometer to see just how hot things were getting. The experts state that water should be around 190F for full extraction of coffee. Right after this machine was done brewing I flipped the top up and took a reading of the coffee grounds which were at a toasty 170F. The cup of coffee I poured out of the carafe was at this same temperature. So this maker is either hitting that magic 190F during brewing or coming very close to it. An hour and a half later I took another reading of a cup of coffee I poured from the carafe and it was at 155F. I would say only a loss of 15 degrees in that time period is very good and the carafe has impressive thermal integrity.

The top of this machine is very big and allows for easy access to the water reservoir, I've had no problems pouring in the water as others have had. I pour filtered water into this maker from my brita pitcher as I've read that in order to get a quality cup of coffee you need to start with good water.

The filter cup is removable and takes the big flat bottom coffee filters which I like. You can really fill this kind of filter up with coffee if you like it strong. I also like that it allows for more surface area for brewing which is key to a good cup of coffee.

I'm using coffee that I bought from a gourmet roaster here in town & I grind the coffee right before I use it. I can drink four cups of coffee from this carafe in a two hour time period and even two hours later the coffee is still very warm and drinkable. I do have to admit, I did nuke the last cup of coffee in the microwave just to heat it up a bit. That's the magic of using a thermal carafe though. Since the coffee hasn't been "cooking" on a heat plate you can nuke it without losing hardly any flavor or gaining any bitterness.

I'm going to go ahead and keep the receipt and box on this as Target has a 90 day return policy on their items. I read that on the back of the receipt, kind of like I read the instructions on how to use this machine. I can only surmise that the bad reviews of this product are coming from people who have really bad problem solving skills and possibly below average IQ's to the point that they can't follow simple directions.

I'm giving this machine four stars as it is functional and does what it's supposed to do. I would be happier if it hit a solid 190F during its brewing cycle but for it's worth it.

I bought this coffeemaker 2 years ago for my office, and it's still going strong. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and reliable. It makes coffee hot (unlike some that make it just warm), and has room enough in the basket to make it good and strong (I usually use 2.5T coffee per mug but could double that). I'm drinking a mug of fresh coffee from it right now. Even the mug is good, as I've had too many travel mugs that didn't seal properly at the lid and would end up dribbling down my chin, but this one is nice and snug and stays put. No muss, no fuss.

The reasons I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 are that 1) if you fill the mug all the way to the top to fill the water basin, you will have spillage (leave about 1/2" space from top and you're fine), and 2) if your mug isn't positioned properly, you may find yourself brewing onto your counter or desk as there's no brew-pause or other switch to indicate to the coffeemaker that the mug isn't positioned right.

This Brew n Go coffee maker is so amazing! It brews in less than 2 mins and it brews the coffee hot but not TOO hot. The no paper filter thing is an awesome feature too. It's also very quiet, not very noisy. I had one of these when I was younger and I was so happy when I found it again on amazon. The travel mug is perfect size and it keeps the coffee relatively warm for a while. For the price, it is WELL worth the money! I definitely recommend this product especially if you are the only one in the household who drinks coffee but only drinks 1-3 cups and not a full pot.
